Nothing beats saying your vows at an Oregon waterfall! Get details on planning an elopement at Latourell Falls in the Columbia River Gorge.

Columbia River Gorge Elopement

The Columbia River Gorge is the ultimate location for couples who can’t pick just one type of scenery—it truly has it all! As the largest National Scenic Area in the country, it boasts everything from river views and towering waterfalls to basalt cliffs, lush forests, and even desert landscapes.

Whether you’re cruising along the Historic Scenic Byway, stopping at random scenic spots, or planning a multi-day adventure to hit all the best locations, you’ll be surrounded by breathtaking views at every turn. Plus, the gorge is dotted with charming little towns, giving you plenty to explore while you’re there for your elopement!

Latourell Falls Elopement

Latourell Falls is hands down one of the best spots for a waterfall elopement in the Columbia River Gorge. It’s just a quick drive from Portland, making it super easy to get to while still feeling like an epic adventure. There’s really nothing like saying your vows under a waterfall, and this spot makes it totally doable without too much of a trek. Plus, the best part is it is super accessible—no extensive hike is required!

Columbia River Gorge Elopement Locations

You have multiple options to choose from in Columbia River Gorge for an elopement – here are the best ones!

Latourell Falls

This waterfall is pure magic—towering cliffs, vibrant green ferns, and the mist that looks like it’s straight out of movie. I love that it’s just one massive, powerful drop, which makes it stand out from the usual multi-tiered falls. The best part is it’s ridiculously easy to get to. Just hop in the car, drive 34 miles from Portland along the stunning Historic Columbia River Scenic Byway, and park right by the trailhead. A short, easy walk later, and you’re standing in front of this jaw-dropping view!

Wahclella Falls

For another dreamy waterfall elopement spot, Wahclella Falls is a hidden gem just 40 minutes from Portland. Unlike a single-drop waterfall, this one has two tiers—an upper falls tucked behind rocks and a lower cascade pouring into a crystal-clear pool. Depending on the season, you might even spot East Fork Falls in the distance! The 2.4-mile roundtrip hike is easy and packed with gorgeous forest views, making the journey just as stunning as the destination. Open year-round, it’s especially magical in the summer with warm temps and golden light.

Rowena Crest Viewpoint

About an hour and a half from Portland, Rowena Crest Viewpoint, a more rugged desert-like landscape, sits high above the Columbia River Gorge, offering jaw-dropping, wide-open views. The drive up is an adventure in itself—winding roads, steep cliffs, and one of the most iconic highway curves you’ll ever see. Not only is it usually pretty quiet, but the sunsets here are next level. While I love the moody PNW vibes, sometimes you just want a sky bursting with color, and this spot delivers on clear days. Plus, being up so high means plenty of wind, which makes for stunning, dynamic photos with all that natural movement.

Panther Creek Falls

A final waterfall option, Panther Creek Falls in Skamania County is about 65 miles from Portland, and offers a stunning two-tiered drop! While the hikes to the upper and lower falls are steep and challenging, you can still take in the beauty with an easy 0.3-mile walk to a scenic overlook. Open year-round, this peaceful spot lets you experience magic of the gorge without the intense hike.

How to Elope at Latourell Falls

If your group size exceeds 75 people (including you, your guests, and vendors), you’ll need a Special Use Permit to get married along the gorge.

Regardless of group size, all wedding ceremonies in the gorge must follow these rules:

  • Public access to trails and roads cannot be blocked.
  • Candles and open flames are strictly prohibited.
  • Vendor trucks and food trucks are not allowed.
  • No amplified music or loud noises.
  • Throwing items like confetti or rice is prohibited.
  • Overnight camping is only permitted at designated campsites.
  • Large decorations are not allowed.

If you require a permit, reach out to the Forest Service for guidance on how to obtain one!
